Holiday Photo Album       Web Photo Albums at No Risk To You!

We set up your web photo album with text and photos of YOUR holiday adventures and you don't pay anything until you have seen it online and are happy with it. A great way to share the photos of your latest trip is to simply tell friends and family the website address and they can jump straight to your album online. You don't have to worry about buying a web domain name or paying for web hosting or the time spent setting it up and maintaining it - let us worry about all that!

While you are travelling, you can send in photos and accompanying text as you go, so friends and family can follow your adventures as they happen!

We can

  • place a link to it on this web site in our Photo Gallery Area, if you wish, so it can be found easily by search engines OR
  • keep it in a separate area of the site and send you the web address. Only those people you forward the web address to can easily locate your web album.
  • arrange for prints of photos to be sent to your local Big W store (pay upon collection)

What does it cost to have my own web page for photos?

For just $19.95 we will create a simple web album with text and photos of YOUR holiday adventures.

Our basic holiday web album can have up to 16 photos and a paragraph of text to go with each. So get yourself online for only $19.95. Start out simple and see how you go. You pay even less for subsequent albums as we charge on a sliding scale. To have a look at the most popular format please click Show me a Web Album.

I want more than that. I want my own WebSite!!

OK then, have a look at what's involved in getting your own domain name, web address and matching email address. You can do it all yourself or we can help you.

A beginner's guide to getting your own website and email address using a name of your choice

If you travel a lot you may need your own webspace to post photos and travel stories on - a lot like this one. Maybe you are setting up a website for your business or just as a hobby. You may have decided that you want your own website on the internet AND you want it at your own web address AND you want to have your own email address to match. Sounds reasonable. So how do you go about it? Let's talk generally first to make sure you know what you need to do and then we will get down to the details.

Domain Name

Let's start with getting the domain name first as that forms the basis for your web address and your email address. Let's look at an example. Our domain name here is 'aussieholiday.com.au', our web address is 'http://www.aussieholiday.com.au' and our email address is 'admin2@aussieholiday.com.au'. OK then, let's start with the domain name first. It is tightly regulated but entirely possible to get one that suits as long as you can find one you want that nobody else is using. You then have to pay to register it with the right people. We will get into the details of how to do that and how much it costs in a minute. For now, let's say you have the domain name.

Web Hosting

A name without an address means nobody would be able to find you so let's think about finding somewhere for the name to live - a web address. You need a space on the internet for your website to reside. It has to be somewhere where it can be located by others using the internet. The best way is to pay to 'rent' a part of a webserver that someone else looks after for you - web hosting. You pay them to provide the right hardware and software and to make sure it has the right connections to the internet. They also give you various options and support so you can get it all working how you want it. Not only does this give you a web address but this also includes a number of email addresses for you to use. We will get into the details of how to do all that and how much it costs soon.

Web Site

That's the main things out of the way isn't it? You have your domain name registered and your matching web address and email address. Well no, you have just begun! None of that is much use unless you get yourself at least one webpage that people are able to see and download from that web address. You can design your own web pages or pay someone to design them for you. What you need is to sketch out in detail how the webpages will look and how they will link together - the layout. Then you can develop your own web pages or pay someone to develop them for you. This means creating the files/webpages from that design. Yes, you know the drill - details and costs later.

Do I really have to do all this?

Well no you don't. If you don't want your own domain name, you may be able to put a web page or advertisement up on this site or someone else's website. We have other options if all you want to do is advertise on a web page. See Advertise for details. We can also design and develop a simple web page for you and organise the web hosting and domain name if you don't want to do any of that yourself. Contact us with details of your project (large or small) to arrange a quote.

Give me an idea of the costs to get your own website up and running

OK, let's say you are going to organise it all yourself - well most of it anyway. Let's look at the steps involved and the costs you can anticipate:

  • Step 1:
  • In Australia the more popular domain names end in .com.au and they will cost you the most at around $90 for 2 years registration. At about $40 for 1 year you can register a domain name ending with .net or .com or other. You should pick a few alternatives for domain names that you like and then type them in the address window of your browser. You will know it is probably free to use if you get 'page not found'. If not you will be able to see the website that has the name you were after. This is a bit hit or miss but is good to give you some ideas at the start of what is out there. Once you have a list of possibles you can go to an accreditated auDA registration site and search to see if your choices are taken. You can register there or hold off registering until you see if you can get a better deal through your web hosting service.
  • Step 2:
  • There are a lot of businesses offering web hosting at a range of prices with many different options. Depending on what you intend to put on the website and the web traffic you expect it can start at about $150 per year. Click on some of the Ad-Links in the left margin and bottom of this page to see what deals are on offer.
  • Step 3:
  • Creating your website is best left to someone with experience in that area and the appropriate software to do it. Costs depend entirely on what you want in your website with a very simple web page only costing $100 to develop. Then you have to know how to get it across from the computer where you developed it to the web server where it will be found on the internet. Again that is best left to someone with experience and the software to do it.
  • Step 4:
  • Don't forget that you will need to maintain it from time to time. Updates six monthly? Respond to emails? AND most importantly you need your web site listed with the search engines so people can find you. To get rated highly by search engines you need to have other web sites that link to you. You may want to conside Exchanging Links with others.
